BRETT THOMAS

OWNER
Wellman Sports, Catching Academy

Thomas takes over Wellman Sports looking to continue the development and traditions Brad Wellman has brought to the Tri-Valley for 30 years.  Thomas is the founder and owner of the Catching Academy, which has become the premier place for catching instruction in the Bay Area where Thomas has worked with hundreds of catchers. Thomas is a native of Danville, who attended Monte Vista High School and played his collegiate baseball at UC Berkeley in the Pac 12 Conference.  Thomas has coached at the Division 1, junior college, and high school levels and spent a lot of time transferring players to the next level.  That experience will help connect players at Wellman Sports to the collegiate level.

JON HAMILTON

HITTING INSTRUCTOR

Coach Hamilton brings 15 years of experience working with hitters at Wellman Sports.  Hamilton was a star outfielder at local California High School before becoming an All-American at Ohlone College in Fremont.  Following his All-American campaign, Hamilton was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 5th round.  Coach Hamilton played 8 seasons of professional baseball in the Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs, and St. Louis Cardinals organizations.  Coach Hamilton was voted best defensive outfielder in the Indians organization and was selected to play in the prestigious Arizona Fall League in 2001. Coach Hamilton's father, Dave, played 9 years in the big leagues, including winning three World Series Championships with the A's in the early 70s.

MIKE REUVAKAMP

HITTING & INFIELD INSTRUCTOR

Coach Reuvekamp comes to Wellman Sports after a five year coaching career at the collegiate level with stints at UC Berkeley and the University of the Pacific.  Coach Reuvecamp worked with hitters and infielders, while being the Recruiting Coordinator.
Coach Reuvecamp played infield at UC Berkeley in the Pac-12 conference where he was twice a member of the Pac-12 All-Academic Team. Besides the extensive experience coaching players, Coach Reuvecamp is extremely well connected and will be an asset to help connect players to the next level.

MIKE NISCO

PITCHING INSTRUCTOR

Coach Nisco brings a decade of experience working with pitchers of all levels.  Coach Nisco has been working with pitcher's all over the Bay Area consistently for the past five years following a college coaching career at both the Division 1 and Division 2 levels. Nisco played his high school baseball at De La Salle High School before attending St. Mary's College of California where he contributed all four years including being awarded pitcher of the year honors.  Following his college career, Coach Nisco played professionally in Italy.

BRAD WELLMAN

FOUNDER

Brad signed as a free agent in 1978 right out of high school. He played 10 years of professional baseball with 6 seasons in the Major Leagues. Brad was a middle infielder. He coached and managed for the Houston Astros organization for 2 years. Brad has been training baseball and softball players in the Bay Area since 1990.

1988 - 1989 Kansas City Royals

AARON MCNEAL

HITTING & INFIELD INSTRUCTOR

Coach McNeal has been an essential part of Wellman Baseball and has been doing instruction with players for nearly 20 years.  Along with his years of experience doing individual instruction, McNeal currently runs a youth baseball program, Team Judah.
McNeal was a star at Castro Valley High School before being selected by the Houston Astros in the 1995 MLB Draft.  McNeal played 11 years of professional baseball winning numerous all-star selections, gold gloves for his defensive prowess and was MVP of the Midwest League in 1999 after hitting .310 and leading the league in homeruns (38) and runs batted in (131).

KEVIN STANLEY

HITTING & CATCHING INSTRUCTOR
HEAD COACH, Northgate HS

Stanley brings an extensive amount of experience in coaching youth baseball to Wellman Sports.  Stanley currently serves as the Head Coach at Northgate High School while helping with the Walnut Creek Bulldogs and the West Coast Kings.  Stanley brings a great deal of knowledge and experience working with hitters, with a focus on their approach and mindset.  Along with his hitting knowledge, Stanley has been working with catchers with the Catching Academy for the past 3 years.
Stanley was a four-year starter at Las Lomas High School in Walnut Creek and went on to play at Diablo Valley College and UC Santa Barbara.  After his career was derailed by injuries he immediately jumped into coaching.

TERRY CHING

HITTING & INFIELD INSTRUCTOR
BASEBALL & SOFTBALL

Coach Ching has been teaching at Wellman Sports for over 25 years and has helped many baseball and softball players reach their full potential. Coach Ching is extremely well respected in softball circles. Terry does individual instruction and runs softball hitting and softball classes. Terry's daughter Kira was awarded a scholarship at Stanford University where she was a standout player for 4 years.

SHAWN CHING

HITTING & INFIELD INSTRUCTOR
SOFTBALL

Coach Ching is one of the most highly regarded instructors in Northern California working both at Wellman Sports and in the Central Valley.  Coach Ching has been working in softball for 15 years following in the footsteps of his father, Terry.
Coach Ching brings extensive experience working with softball girls of all ages with hitters and infielders.

BOBBY BYSTROWSKI

PITCHING INSTRUCTOR
STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

Bobby was drafted as an infielder out of high school in 1995. He attended Sac City JC and was drafted as a CF 1997. He played 5 seasons with 2 organizations as an outfielder from 1997-2001 with the Astros and Padres. Following his career as an outfielder he was signed by the Brewers as a pitcher and was a Calif. league all star his first year. Bobby knows what it takes to play at the highest level. He teaches that consistency, concentration, & commitment will take your talent and baseball career to the next level.

DAN MEYER

HITTING INSTRUCTOR

Dan played an impressive 15 years of professional baseball, we of which were in the major leagues, including:
 

-Detroit Tigers (1972, 4th round draft)
-Seattle Mariners 
-Oakland A's 

Meyer primarily played first base, but also played left field, third base and right field.
